Volleyball Basics: What You Need to Know

Volleyball is a sport that is enjoyed all over the world and is only trumped in popularity by soccer. It is fun and challenging, and it is one sport that both men and women enjoy equally – and can even play to-gether. The basics of volleyball play are relatively simple and easy to learn. It is also a sport that can be played very safely, as there is very little contact with other players. This makes it a very popular sport in middle schools and high schools all over the country, as well as with adults. There are several important positions in volleyball, and there is likely one that is perfect for you and your specific talents. If tradition-al volleyball is not your thing, then there are several fun and quirky variations that you may love. Beach volleyball and Wallyball have become almost as popular as traditional volleyball and are great alternatives that can even be played competitively.

If you watch volleyball and wonder exactly what each player is doing, then learning about the different volleyball positions can help you understand how the sport is played. There are defensive and offensive players, and both play simultaneously, no matter which team has the serve. Some players are in charge of fielding serves to keep the ball off the ground, while other offensive players are in charge of attacking the ball to help the team score points.

Beach volleyball and Wallyball are two games that are inspired by traditional volleyball and maintain many of the same rules, but add fun twists to the traditional game. These twists can make the game even more fun and challenging while making the sport easy to play for people who don’t have volleyball courts close by where they can play.
